The Importance of Play: Pediatric Physical Therapist Approved Gifts for Kids 12 months to 6 years
The wise Fred Rogers, the creator and star of the long-running kids’ TV show “Mister Roger’s Neighborhood”, said:
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play IS serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
Rogers also said:
“Children's play is not just kids' stuff. Children's play is rather the stuff of most future inventions.”
Many experts agree (see footnotes) that play during all stages of childhood dramatically influences children’s cognitive development, social skills, emotional well-being, and physical health.
By encouraging active and imaginative play and finding time to purposefully engage with our kids and playing WITH them, we can build family bonds and keep their bodies and minds growing strong throughout childhood!
So the next time your child asks you to play, say “yes!”
